Build a Remote MCP Server with Azure Logic Apps Standard
Create a Logic App Standard, build workflows as MCP tools, configure API key authentication, and test the server from VS Code

Lab overview
The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard that lets AI agents discover and use tools from external servers. Azure Logic Apps Standard now supports exposing workflows as MCP tools, turning your enterprise integrations into AI-ready capabilities. With over 1,400 built-in connectors, Logic Apps can bridge AI agents to virtually any system or service.
In this lab, you will create a Standard Logic App with a Workflow Service Plan, build request-response workflows that function as MCP tools, configure the MCP server with API key authentication, and test tool discovery and invocation directly from VS Code.
Objectives
Upon completing this Intermediate level lab, you will be able to:
- Create a Standard Logic App with a Workflow Service Plan in the Azure portal
- Build request-response workflows that serve as MCP tools with descriptive metadata
- Enable and configure an MCP server with API key-based authentication from the Agents blade
- Test MCP tool discovery and invocation against the remote server using MCP Inspector
Who is this lab for?
This lab is designed for:
- Cloud engineers and integration developers who want to expose enterprise workflows as AI agent tools using the MCP standard
- Citizen developers and automation specialists looking to bridge their Logic Apps investments with AI agent ecosystems
Verified against your live environment
An automated validation engine inspects your actual resources and configurations as you work. Completion means the task was performed, not multiple choice, real-world proficiency.
